The Concept: the box within the box

The "The Box" project stems from a geometric reflection on the modulation of interior space and the hierarchy of volumes. The entire intervention develops around the idea of spatial rediscovery through subtraction and insertion: a large architectural "box" that redefines the boundaries of living.

It is not a simple division of rooms, but a pure, dark volume inserted into the original container, generating new perspectives, visual backdrops, and fluid transitions between the living zone and the most intimate area of the house.

This central block organizes flows, conceals service functions, and acts as the visual pivot around which the entire domestic life revolves.

The pillar as material memory

The pre-existing architecture is not hidden, but celebrated.

The cornerstone of this philosophy is the raw concrete pillar. Stripped of its plaster, the concrete resurfaces with its rough, imperfect, and deeply tactile texture, standing in deliberate contrast to the geometric purity and matte surfaces of the custom-made furniture.

The pillar thus becomes a structural sculpture, a fragment of the building's memory that dialogues with the contemporary nature of the new intervention.

The detail: the embrace of the bookcase

The point of maximum synthesis between the new and the pre-existing is expressed in the millimetric detail of the millwork. The top shelf of the double-sided bookcase approaches the concrete pillar with a gesture of profound respect, "embracing" it and welcoming its shape without ever overpowering, forcefully touching, or hiding it. This construction node, resolved to the millimeter, encapsulates the core identity of the project: contemporary design does not erase the past, but shapes itself around it with delicacy and sartorial precision.

Materials and atmosphere

The material palette is reduced to the essential to give maximum prominence to the volumes. The warmth of the wooden flooring balances the coldness of the exposed concrete, while the dark details of the profiles and transition elements, such as the large full-height doors, give rhythm to the space.

In the transition zones and functional blocks, such as the kitchen and hallways, the symmetry of the door cuts accentuates the perception of the "box" as a sculptural object.

Finally, this rigor is mirrored in the most intimate spaces, such as the bathroom, where the large, monolithic stone-effect claddings and the integrated details in the vanity tops confirm the minimalist and executive approach of the work.
