Kerto® LVL – High-Performance Timber for Inspired Architecture

Kerto® LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) is a precision-engineered wood product that empowers architects to create ambitious, sustainable, and structurally sound buildings—whether in new construction, renovation, or adaptive reuse projects. It offers a unique combination of aesthetic flexibility, technical performance, and environmental responsibility, making it a smart choice for both conceptual design and detailed execution.

Structural Strength Meets Design Versatility

Kerto LVL is manufactured from 3 mm rotary-peeled, strength-graded softwood veneers, bonded with weather- and boil-resistant phenol formaldehyde adhesive. The result is a continuous, uniform billet with high load-bearing capacity, excellent rigidity, and dimensional stability. It is then sawn into beams, planks, or panels—customized to meet a wide range of design needs. Despite its impressive strength, Kerto LVL remains lightweight, enabling longer spans, thinner sections, and efficient handling on site or in modular assembly.

Quality and Consistency You Can Trust

Kerto LVL is produced under the strict quality standards of ISO 9001, and its performance is verified through regular third-party inspections. The products are CE marked and have obtained numerous national technical approvals across Europe and beyond. Architects can rely on the consistency and predictability of Kerto LVL across all structural applications, including floors, roofs, walls, and load-bearing frames.

Sustainable by Nature and by Design

Sourced from sustainably managed northern forests, Kerto LVL plays a key role in climate-conscious architecture. It acts as a long-term carbon store, helping reduce the environmental impact of the built environment. When properly installed, its service life matches that of the building, supporting circular and low-carbon design strategies.

Tailored for Architectural Precision

To support complex architectural expressions, Kerto LVL products can be further processed to match detailed specifications. Available options include:

  • Sanding (optical or calibrated)
  • Edge profiling (e.g., tongue and groove)
  • Special cutting, both straight and tapered
  • CNC machining for high-precision detailing
  • Multiple gluing for Kerto® GLVL
  • Surface treatments for aesthetic or performance enhancement

These customization options minimize on-site waste and simplify construction workflows—especially in offsite, prefabricated, or hybrid timber systems.

Fast, Light, Sustainable

As a flagship material of Metsä Wood, Kerto LVL is designed for industrial-scale use and supports modern construction methods such as offsite manufacturing, modular building, and hybrid structures. Its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, combined with fast installability and low waste, make it ideal for high-performance buildings with reduced construction times and embodied carbon.

Monio High School & Cultural Centre

Monio High School and Cultural Centre, Finland’s first three-storey timber log public building, showcases a pioneering idea for large-scale Finnish wood construction. Designed by Helsinki-based AOR Architects, Monio is situated in the former garrison area in the centre of Tuusula’s Hyrylä district (Tuusula is part of the Helsinki metropolitan area).
