The WasteBasedBrick® is proof that it’s possible to build high-quality, aesthetic structures from waste. Made from at least 60% waste, WasteBasedBricks® upcycle 91 kilograms of waste per square meter. These sustainable building materials are suitable for both interior and exterior use and are available in custom shapes and sizes.
The Nougat line features bricks in a soft yellow tone with a hint of warm pink. Nougat is the 21st-century answer to London Stock Bricks. A ‘punched’ finish leaves the WasteBasedBrick® surface slightly uneven, creating a deeper, cleaner look and feel.

The production process begins by collecting various types of waste, including concrete rubble, glass, ceramics, and other discarded materials. These materials are carefully sorted, cleaned, and processed to remove impurities, ensuring the quality and integrity of the final product.
Once the raw materials have been prepared, they are combined using advanced recycling technologies to create a homogeneous mixture. This mixture is then compressed and molded into brick-shaped units, which are cured and hardened to achieve the desired strength and durability. The resulting Wastbasedbricks boast impressive structural properties, making them suitable for a wide range of construction applications.

Reference projects
Concrete presents The West, a unique residential building in Manhattan. The West is composed of two architectural elements: the base of the building is characterized by a robust brick façade, recalling the industrial character of the area and the townhouses of Manhattan. The brick facades are carefully crafted in rich detailed patterns and have large industrial windows creating street-oriented, typical NY loft-type studios and 1-bedroom apartments. The West's facade is the result of a collaboration between Concrete and StoneCycling. The bricks are made out of a proprietary blend of recovered construction debris blended with raw clay, quarried in the Netherlands. Over 260,000 kilograms of waste has been up-cycled for the bricks used in this building. A total of forty different brick shapes and sizes were required for the project: each piece was individually hand-brushed with a subtly reflective glass glaze before being fired in a centuries-old factory. The unique glass glaze creates a variety of shades and glossiness during the day, resulting in a different read of the building every time one sees it.
Along the water of the IJ river in Amsterdam lies 360 Degrees, the closing piece of Grasweg by studioninedots. Being the highest and largest structure in the area, the building forms a sculptural symbol of reuse — not only from its surroundings, but also from the water and the city center across. Teaming up with StoneCycling, studioninedots developed a new series WasteBasedBricks®. With these bricks, the building was able to repurpose a total of over 152 tonnes of building waste. It is an ‘all-sided’ residential building, that has a different expression from every angle and reacts to the different neighborhoods in the area. To align with the surrounding buildings, the architects chose not to create one massive volume, but to split the building into twin towers that meet through a cascading podium. The gradual color progression in the facade emphasizes this principle.
Sands End Arts & Community Centre
Enhancing the social and leisure offer in the local area of London, Mæ Architects’ completion of the Sands End Arts and Community Centre in Fulham is a welcome addition for the community. Sited beside the Clancarty Lodge in the north western corner of South Park, the center caters to a wide range of users; providing a café alongside spaces for social and educational functions, clubs and events. With a view to ensuring long term viability, dedicated nursery facilities have also been included in the scheme. Over 35% of the building material is composed of recycled materials, with a responsibly sourced CLT timber structure which has inherently low embodied energy values. The building’s brick skin of WasteBasedBricks® allowed Mæ’s design to effectively upcycle over 28 tonnes of potential construction landfill material.
