Wink

Wink evolved out of a study in geometric forms of two arcs. Each arc is visually independent, but reliant upon each other for the final 3D form with a playful use of interacting shapes and materials. The piece is realised in Jesmonite which is rarely used in furniture or architectural practice, but is hardwearing, visually and tactilely smooth and will not develop hairline cracks. In Wink the viewer is again posed with a seemingly physical impossibility – a small steel arch withstanding the immense weight of a large concrete block. Technical ingenuity and the Jesomite material itself maintain this striking illusion and enjoyable visual pun. The piece functions as a complete cooking platform, with gas hob, oven, storage drawers and extractor hidden in the underside of the steel arch. The extended area beyond the cooking surface also provides a preparation worktop or bar at which to eat or socialise around the chef!
