565 Broome SoHo is located in one of New York’s most historic neighborhoods - Soho. Overhanging the Hudson River, the residential tower offers to its occupants an outstanding panoramic view on the city and on the river. This project is in line with the district’s spirit, being historically a center for arts, but also more recently for restaurants, shops, hotels and local businesses.

For SoHo, a district so closely identified with 19th and 20th century cast-iron architecture, 565 Broome SoHo introduces an elegant 21st century inflection onto that neighborhood.

The 30-storey structure soars above its lower-slung surroundings, providing sweeping views of the city and of the Hudson River, including the sunsets that color the river and the harbor every evening. It is almost 100 meters tall and contains a total of 115 apartments, which have all floor-to ceiling windows. The accommodations include studios, four-bedroom homes, as well as duplexes and penthouses.

Two most notable aesthetic traits of this building are the mullions and the curved glass. The thin mullions let a visual narrative to take place around and within the structure, allowing for breathability and light to enter into all the residences’ floor-to-ceiling windows. The corner curved glass gives to certain residents this particularly unique view.

As a result of collaboration, the project is shared between Renzo Piano Building Workshop on the one hand & SLCE - in charge of both forms and facades - and the Paris design firm RDAI – in charge of the interior design - on the other hand.

G.T.DESIGN brings the textile element in 565 Broome, the new luxury project signed Renzo Piano in New York, a thirty story building in the heart of Soho with breathtaking views on the city and the Hudson river.

565 Broome is the result of a collaboration between Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the Paris interior design firm RDAI and Italian developers Bizzi & Partners Development. G.T.DESIGN, in partnership with Lema Mobili, designed the interiors of a duplex model apartment, providing custom textiles for the flooring in the living area, the bedrooms and the bathrooms.

The austere palette of the materials of the building and its interiors, such as stone, white oak, glass and cement, accentuate their natural beauty and are the perfect backdrop of the subtle elegance of the collections of Deanna Comellini, Creative Director of the Italian manufacturer and pioneer of the contemporary rug.

Through a curated study of the interiors, G.T.DESIGN rugs are masterfully fitted as and integral part of each space. Among the collections included in the living area and the bedrooms, the functional Paglietta, a blend of the ancient jute fiber with a glossy performing yarn, the soft and velvety surface of the thick wool weave combined with the lightness of bamboo of the Boom rug, and the flexible and resistant Textures style, made in pure virgin wool, featured in a gray and a metallic version. Stairs Lino rugs, with their natural shine of linen fibers that create elegant nuances of color, are used for the bathroom floors. The warm and understated tones of the rugs, such as a muddy brown color, ocher, and shades of gray, are complementary to the modern and welcoming interiors.

Brand description

A pioneer in the contemporary rug industry, G.T.DESIGN combines artisanal techniques and craftsmanship with cutting edge technology to manufacture unique and luxurious products with an unparalleled attention to detail.

For over 40 years, the Italian manufacturer has redefined textiles and the contemporary rug as an essential element of interior design. The artistic approach of Deanna Comellini, the company’s founder and creative director, adds expressive modernity to the weaving process and rug creation, as she perfectly blends nature, light and color.

G.T.DESIGN’s research into yarns evolved from sustainable fibers such as hemp and jute to hand-weaving of technological and high-performance yarns, combined with a constant drive to explore the design process, ranging from new weaving systems, to hand painting methods, and digital printing.

Some exciting industry breakthroughs are the Coconutrug, the first patented contemporary rug made with precious coconut fiber, and Kama, made in viscose and among the company’s bestselling products, still incomparable in terms of sheen and color depth.

Founded in 1977 in Bologna by Deanna Comellini, G.T.DESIGN collaborates with the finest brands in the design industry and fully supports interior designers and architects in their projects in creating custom designed spaces with a completely new perspective.

“The Contemporary Rug Manifesto”

“The original rug is the ground we were born onto. It reflects who we are. It is the first element in creating an intimate and domestic atmosphere. It carries the scent, the habits, the poetry of a home. The rug is an archaic symbol that G.T.DESIGN has transformed into something contemporary, familiar, a homely symbolism that defines the boundaries of personal space.”

Deanna Comellini, G.T.DESIGN’s Founder and Creative Director
