The Morgan Library is the result of successive additions that have shaped the complex over time, from its original construction in 1906 as a private library to its later expansion, opening to the public, and incorporation of adjacent buildings. With the intervention by Renzo Piano and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the ensemble achieved new spatial and functional coherence through the introduction of three new volumes and a central underground space connecting the different buildings. This large piazza, located seventeen meters below street level, allows the historic structures to interact, bringing natural light into the interiors through the glazed entrance on Fifth Avenue and transforming the complex into a contemporary cultural hub.

Within this context, bespoke bronze doors and partitions for the main entrance and vestibule play a key role in mediating between architecture and performance. Designed to integrate seamlessly with the light and essential language of the new volumes, these elements combine material refinement with advanced technical solutions.

The extension, conceived in steel and glass, required large transparent surfaces to bring daylight into the underground areas while ensuring high performance. A key challenge was the connection between the thermally broken access doors—designed with extremely slender profiles—and the thin load-bearing structure, subject to both thermal expansion and wind-induced movement.

The solution was the development of custom bronze entrances and frames incorporating Teflon inserts, allowing the independent movement of structural elements and openings without friction. This approach ensures precision, durability, and long-term reliability while preserving the architectural clarity and lightness of the design.
