AL-MUNTADA - Knowledge Space by Saint-Gobain is a forum for learning and a space for exchanging ideas and collaborating. It serves as a proof of concept that sustainable construction in the region is possible using light and innovative materials and is a live example of wellbeing and comfort in the region. Located in the capital’s sustainability hub, Masdar City, the building has a a built-up area of over 17,000 square feet, is spread across three floors, and includes a digital and physical solutions library, offices, as well as a learning centre.
The project, in a design collaboration with AMGD and Obermeyer Middle East, was fully executed by Walkthru to include a comprehensive construction and interior fit-out scope employing state-of-the-art construction techniques - whilst embodying Saint-Gobain's commitment to sustainability.
Showcasing the latest innovations in light and sustainable construction, and featuring a large range of Saint-Gobain solutions, the zero-energy building has set new benchmarks for eco-friendly construction technologies. With a solar roof mounted on a stand-alone steel structure and made up of 198 photovoltaic panels, the building is able to generate 20% more energy than its own operational requirements. The project also features a triple-height forum space, complete with stepped seating situated across from a nine -screen video wall as well as a large terrace overlooking Masdar City’s skyline and its 10MW Solar Volataic Farm. Highlights of the building include the innovative façade system using structural steel frame and Glasroc X board with an Exterior Insulation and Finishing System (EIFS), electronically tinted, high-performance, and fire-resistant glass, decorative stamped concrete, Accoya wood, cast-in-situ terrazzo, sustainable cast iron drainage pipes, acoustic baffles, other acoustic ceilings, partitions and flooring systems.
AL-MUNTADA offers a truly unique experience, allowing individuals to feel, hear, see, and breathe through optimal thermal and acoustic comfort, pleasing aesthetics, natural light, and improved indoor air quality.
