Alford House

Alford House

Located on a heavily wooded 31-acre parcel, this project started as an addition of a screened porch and a separate garage structure at each end of an existing, very small, cabin-like three-bedroom house. As the project developed, the new additions were incorporated into an expanded and completely renovated main house, creating a larger family home with a more seamless transition to the additions and access to exterior spaces.

Select elements of the existing house, such as some old wood timber trusses, were kept as part of the renovation of the main structure. A new, expanded entry deck was added to provide access to the house and to connect to the garage structure via a covered porch. The main part of the house consists of a large open living area and dining space, with a modern kitchen separating the dining area from the kitchen with a large island. A home office and an en-suite guest bedroom are located just off the main space, leading to the screened porch. A study loft sits above the kitchen area, connected by a tucked-away staircase. The living area has a large glass wall that frames the view. A new metal roof unifies the existing structure with the new additions, giving the house a greater sense of scale as it sits surrounded by majestic tall trees.
