This 1200 square feet tailored apartment integrates traditional ideals with the client’s idea of creating a home which reflects their unique lifestyle and is welcoming and cozy. The design language of the house has vibrant touch of Indian culture. The design palette across the home is teakwood, white marble and neutral shades accented by pops of color.
The scope to alter the shell was limited and thus challenging to create a stimulating and vibrant interior space. The main idea was to invite more natural light and make the living room more spacious and welcoming. Addition of slit window in the dining area and creation of an open kitchen filled the space with more luminescence. The balcony was made part of the main space to add more play.
Classical elements were woven into the design. Glimpses of the same could be seen in the stone inlay on the floor, use of motifs on the walls and the main door, brass bells, carved wooden partition and traditional patterns on glass and upholstery. A vintage handwoven vibrant rug complements the bespoke furniture of the living room.
Every square inch of this house is alluring, with every room filled with elegant layers of color, texture, and pattern. It all starts with those walls. The design uses timeless colors, the kind you might find in traditional houses. With the expectation that client would never become bored or tired of them. Lighting design was crucial because it impacts everything, from the paint colors, to furnishings, to fabrics—and most importantly, the feeling in a room. The detailing in the furniture and doors add to the beauty of the house. The otherwise mundane passage was given a tailored look by incorporating marble inlay and a dummy wooden window finished in distressed mustard color.
Rattan makes its appearance in the Guest bedroom showing the clients fondness for natural materials. The look of the bed was kept classical and a hint of salmon pink color was used to add more depth to the room. The slit window adds light to the adjoining dining area which in return gives more volume to the bedroom. Use of colored motifs on the floor add to the tailored look.
This is the most serene room in the house, perfect for meditation and occasionally hosting guests. Statement bespoke wardrobes and high-low sitting areas accented by marble inlay and rugs make the room functional and beautiful.
The Master bedroom comprises of two key elements- the Daybed and the Mandir. Alongside the window sits the daybed which acts as an escape by allowing the client to lounge comfortably. This cozy corner offers the view of the old city of Vrindavan. A handcrafted Mandir placed in the corner of the master bedroom is painted in a bold tan shade, thus making it the main highlight of the room.
The headboard is dressed in a beautiful peacock color which complements the overall palette of the room. The walls of the bedroom are bathed in a soothing cream color to connect the bold contradicting unique elements. The other elements- wooden shelves, mandir side panel with CNC cut motifs and brass pendant light maintain the traditional design relevance.
The focal point of the mandir is the vibrant Madhubani painting which depicts a scene where Lord Krishna applies henna on the palms of Goddess Radha in the presence and service of the Ashth Sakhis.
This home is an extension of its owners, and this was kept in mind to create a modern interior infused with traditional ideals. Thus blending in the historic city of Vrindavan.
