Butterfly Maisonette

This project by Mitchell + Corti Architects began with an old terrace house: run down, tired and blue, with mock features, a tight spiral staircase, haphazard layout, low ceilings and jaded decor. We were approached to assist our young client in boosting this property’s spirits from dejected to dynamic by creating an invitingly bright and well-organised home.We set out to marry a traditional exterior with cleverly designed contemporary spaces. Caption Through vaulting and exposing the shape of the traditional butterfly roof, we were able to insert large expanses of glazing and in doing so obtain light penetration that resonates throughout the building. This key design move also allowed to accommodate double the storage capacity... More

Zero Zero Restaurant

With Liqui’s pizzeria design for Zero Zero, our client wanted their customers to have a relaxed dining experience within a luxury setting. Our contemporary restaurant design uses strong architectural features combined with a subtle mix of high-quality materials to give the interior a luxurious feel. A long, standout counter, wraps around the central pizza oven on three sides, so that customers can sit and watch while their artisanal pizzas are made by hand right in front of them. This creates a bit of theatre and gives the restaurant an opportunity to promote the range and freshness of its high-quality ingredients. Being a key element in the pizzeria design, the front of the counter is clad in bespoke ceramic tiles that contrast with... More

Pier29 Restaurant

Liqui’s seafood restaurant design for Pier 29 was created hand-in-hand with our branding agency Crate47 who created a brand that fits with the nautical theme of our contemporary interior. This was in-line with the all-encompassing brief for this new hospitality venture, and together we developed a subtly branded restaurant interior design that offers a relaxed dining experience for those who enjoy good quality seafood. With the maritime theme in mind, the interior design of the restaurant combines such elements as navy blue walls and exposed timber. There’s a row of large circular mirror windows running the length of one wall that suggest oversized portholes. We created a slice of theatre with two large installation pieces susp... More

BVM house

With the simple demolition of two walls, it was possible to completely review the internal distribution. The design choices in fact aimed to make all the rooms, originally dark and not very spacious, brighter and optically larger. The rounded shapes make the passage areas more fluid and the four materials used - brass, lacquered, quartz and oak - follow a compositional rhythm and precise geometric relationships to achieve harmony. house D

The flat is located on the third floor of an elegant building dated back to around 1930 in Turin. The landlady, a young professional, used to live in the premises as a child, and came back to live there as an adult with her partner. The challenge of this project was then related to the preservation of feelings and memories the landlady had from her past life, thus avoiding tearing the flat apart. On the other hand, the spaces had to be adapted to a new way of living, in tune with the age and the contemporary taste of its “new inhabitants”. The wide hallway - totally unused if not as a distribution space - was kept intact. We opened the vanishing point on a window though, thus creating a sort of “borrowed passage”, l... More
