A small home in the woods near Athens, Georgia, the design is intended to evoke a regional, yet contemporary architectural language. By finding inspiration in local agricultural buildings and construction, the design interprets the vernacular and conveys a sense of domestic retreat.
The Owners requested a small, environmentally sensitive home. To this end the home is sited just below the brow of a hill to afford views of a small creek, yet minimize the presence on the site. The design utilizes the tree canopy and orientation to achieve passive solar benefits. Primary green building features include: a small building footprint, a high performance building envelope, green roof terrace, and low water use plumbing fixtures.
