Avant Garde Motors

The challenge presented to SJ2a was to transform an empty shed on something different and unique. For this we were inspired by lines that refer to the speed, lightness and harmony of curves. The original prefabricated concrete structure was re-worked. The beams coated in dry-wall creating diffused lines of light that extend throughout the store. The four central columns mark the client sales area. Interspersed concrete bands rise from the floor in continuous curves forming the attendance desks. At the entrance wall of the store extends a panel of wood with curved cuts that move in range and depth. This panel extends from the front desk, past the lounge and to the end of the bar. The bar counter starts at the back of the store and in its curved shapes conforms and supports the clients waiting lounge getting to the reception were it detaches itself completely from the wall and floor becoming the reception desk. The mezzanine, a linear volume in the background, advances through the store structure and ends in a cantilever, where the boardroom is located. The tilted mirrored glass creates a better visual connection to the space below while promoting unexpected reflected views of the cars on display in the hall. We envisioned creating an open exhibition space as an art gallery dedicated to speed, with cars as the main work on display, over suspended platforms and on framed spaces. The large panels printed on the background walls refer the classic brands images. The curved panel design detail frame the views and harmonize with the sensual curves of the vehicles on display.
