In Cap Falcó, on Mallorca’s southwest coast, the studio Jaime Salvá Architecture & Interior Design presents Azure, a contemporary residence that reinterprets Mediterranean architecture through simplicity and proportion. The project was commissioned by a developer seeking a home that felt current, timeless, and functional, with a calm, neutral language yet enough character to give it a distinct identity.
The plot featured a steep slope that defined the starting point of the design. The house is positioned at the highest point of the site to maximise light and distant views, with access from a lower level that enhances the perception of scale. From this vantage point, the house appears to float above a Santanyí dry-stone wall — a structural gesture that brings horizontality and privacy against the backdrop of the terrain.
The topography also shaped the interior layout. The programme unfolds across different levels that adapt to the natural slope of the land, creating fluid spaces and visual connections between rooms. This configuration encourages natural ventilation and optimises daylight, reinforcing the relationship between the interior and its immediate surroundings.
The design is structured through simple geometric volumes, where every proportion and opening responds to the function of the space. The result is a coherent and fluid architecture that combines technical rigour with visual calm. The house feels both light and precise, with a composition defined by order and balance.
Inside, a neutral palette and natural materials — stone, wood, and sand tones — bring warmth and visual consistency. Furniture and finishes are integrated discreetly, allowing the materials to take centre stage. Sliding glass panels disappear when opened, connecting the living area with terraces and the pool, creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. The continuity of materials across floors and surfaces reinforces this sense of spatial unity.
Beyond its structural gesture, Azure reflects the studio’s philosophy of creating contemporary Mediterranean architecture that is simple, honest, and deeply connected to its setting — where light, proportion, and functionality guide every design decision. The house proposes a way of inhabiting the landscape with calm, through a precise architectural language free of excess or artifice.
