Near the Mississippi River in Saint Paul, Minnesota, this is the first single-family home completed within Highland Bridge, a new neighborhood on the 135-acre former Ford Motor Company site. Strand Design used distinct claddings to define the massing: bonderized metal and brick that recall the site's industrial past.
The house brings a modern scale into a largely traditional neighborhood, and strategically placed windows frame views of the river and nearby landmarks. Large panes of glass draw daylight deep into the interior volumes and open views as the plan moves from public to private spaces.
Inside, a tall living room with a fireplace and open loft, a long kitchen, a dining area, built-in shelving and a floating stair share wood floors and dark, warm finishes. A bedroom has tall black-framed windows, and a long hallway runs beneath a timber ceiling. Interiors are by Strand Design with Liquidpink Interiors. The project has been featured in Artful Living.
