A bespoke replacement dwelling in the South Downs National Park is a modern interpretation of a luxury country house boasting large elevations of architectural glazing with floor-to-ceiling slim framed sliding glass doors and oversized casement windows. 

Sandy Rendel Architects ambitious designs for a bespoke replacement home of a 1950’s bungalow in the South Downs with an expansive luxury bespoke glazing package took a year in planning, and five to complete. 

IQ Glass was commissioned to design and supply bespoke floor-to-ceiling architectural glazing with ultra slim framed sliding glass doors opening out to the far-reaching view of the mature South Downs mature oak woodland of the National Park.  

The characteristics of the vernacular to which the modern bespoke villa in the South Downs sits on in Wealden, largely consisting of clay soil on sandstone bedrock. The architects embraced these natural materials into the fabric of the building with the neutral hues of the stone and brickwork framed by oversized glazing and minimal framed floor to ceiling sliding glass doors to the south facing rear elevation, highlighting the grand colonnades, and framing architectural views to the mature Oakland grounds.  

A series of six slim framed sliding glass doors to the east and south elevations offer seamless transition to the outdoor space. Flush threshold detail and drainage allows seamless access between the indoors and outdoors for modern day living.
