C-Mine, with the C of “creativity”, is the urban development project which is turning the old coalmining site of Winterslag in Belgium into a creative hub. Part of the buildings and installations have been renovated and are listed. The buildings in pseudo-historic style date from 1912-1925. The city of Genk, C-Mine’s owner, has obtained EU financial support to convert the site into a hub of culture, creative economy, tourism-recreation and education. Stockmansblauw, the design studio of ceramic artist Piet Stockmans, Euroscoop, Terrae restaurant (famous since its appearance in TV cooking contest “My Restaurant’) and IT start-up company Nascom have all chosen C-Mine as their new home-base. De Boer Waterproofing Solutions has supplied the waterproofing solution for “C-Tour”, an underground discovery trail which is the site’s most spectacular attraction. Visitors are submerged in a new world where they can discover the underground remnants of our industrial past. The trail ends on top of Flanders’ highest mine-shaft tower (62 metres) which offers superb views over the square, the site and the surrounding area. The tunnels have been waterproofed using De Boer High-Tech material :
