Project Overview
Located within a Vicland-owned commercial asset, this workplace fitout redefines the contemporary office through a lens of calm, material depth and enduring design quality. Conceived as a premium commercial interior, the brief called for the transformation of an existing tenancy into a refined environment that supports focused work, private meetings and client engagement, while maintaining a timeless aesthetic aligned with long-term asset value.
Developed in close collaboration with interior design studio Made For, the project translates a bespoke design language into a highly resolved built outcome. The overarching vision centred on warmth and spatial clarity, expressed through a deep, natural material palette. Timber, stone, metal and layered textiles were selected to create a workplace that feels grounded, tactile and quietly confident.
From the outset, the design and construction strategy was informed by Vicland’s broader asset objectives. The fitout was required not only to elevate the tenant experience, but also to enhance the long-term value and versatility of the building. The result is a space that balances immediate functional performance with enduring architectural quality.
Spatial Strategy and Material Expression
The floorplate is organised as a series of interconnected zones defined by subtle shifts in materiality and furniture rather than rigid partitions. This approach reinforces visual continuity while allowing for varied modes of occupation.
Soft seating areas are positioned along the building’s full-height glazing, capitalising on filtered natural light and expansive Melbourne city views. Curved upholstered lounges, sheer drapery and low-profile tables create relaxed, semi-private settings that remain visually connected to the broader workspace. The interplay of transparency and softness establishes a calm edge condition to the plan, offering both retreat and outlook.
Work and meeting zones are articulated through bespoke timber joinery and furniture elements set within a restrained natural palette. Open shelving introduces a residential sensibility, softening the commercial context and creating a fluid transition between informal touchdown areas and more structured work settings. The use of warm timbers and tactile finishes reinforces a sense of trust and permanence.
Formal meeting spaces, including the boardroom, adopt a darker, more enveloping material language. Timber-lined walls, upholstered seating and carefully controlled lighting establish a focused and professional atmosphere. Stone plinths, custom tables and refined metal detailing introduce moments of visual weight and contrast, underscoring the project’s emphasis on craftsmanship and precision.
Delivery and Coordination
The project required careful coordination with concurrent base building works. Managing multiple interfaces across trades and construction stages, the Amicus fitout team adopted a proactive sequencing strategy to ensure alignment between fitout and base build programs.
Through detailed planning and close collaboration with all stakeholders, the fitout was delivered ahead of the base build schedule. This approach provided certainty around timelines and safeguarded the integrity of the design intent. The seamless integration of services, joinery and architectural elements reflects a disciplined construction methodology underpinned by open communication and shared objectives.
