Renovation of a duplex apartment of around 150m2 in total. The couple of young clients asked us to create a project that would allow a daily and functional use of both floors which in the beginning were not connected from the inside. The proposal to create an internal staircase that could directly connect the two levels connected at first only by an existing condominium staircase, immediately found favor with the clients. Internal staircase that has become a real furnishing theme. The Neapolitan architecture and design studio Manuarino has chosen to create a staircase with cantilevered wooden steps and integrated into the underlying bar and the underlying bathroom volume.
On the ground floor, the main entrance precedes the large living space where we find a large and comfortable sofa (Calía) for the TV area and four armchairs (Connubia) for the conversation area. The space is dominated by two elements made to measure in carpentry based on an exclusive and unpublished design by the manuarino studio: the booth at the entrance which also generates the equipped TV wall, and the staircase with cantilevered steps which becomes a bar in the lower part and bottle rack in the high part. The staircase culminates in the large wooden volume that conceals the guest bathroom, well hidden by a full-height flush-to-the-wall door in continuity with the bathroom wall paneling.
The bathroom is characterized by a single large slab of black marquina marble-effect stoneware which gives the bathroom a very elegant atmosphere and amplifies the space which, although very essential also in terms of size, is perceived as very large thanks to the stone surfaces spread over the entire height. Going up to the first floor, the living area continues with a dining area and kitchen island. The kitchen (Veneta cucine) has a wall mainly equipped with columns and a central part with a worktop, and a large three-metre island or, to be more precise, peninsula (because it is set against the wall) with a large porcelain stoneware top (Decton) which guarantees a very generous work plan. The sleeping area is separated by a sliding door in reflex smoked glass which separates the hallway of the bedrooms from the dining area. Hallway that finds a large coat and a pocket emptier area. The very essential double bedroom has a headboard made in custom carpentry, lacquered in open pore gray in continuity with the color of the wall immediately above, which is in turn illuminated by a luminous groove that generates a very pleasant and scenographic wallwash effect.
The sliding door in reflex smoke glass separates the large walk-in closet. The complete en-suite bathroom maintains the floor of the apartment also as wall covering, except for the back wall of the shower for which a highly distinctive and precious decorative coating by Naxos ceramiche was chosen. The third bathroom is very spacious and also houses a convenient laundry space hidden by a custom-made full-height three-door movable wall. The decorative coating this time is a glossy green onyx effect that gives the environment a classic tone as opposed to the essentiality and formal purity of the space. The synergy with the client also in this case has produced a splendid alchemy for which the adventure of the renovation, albeit with ups and downs, has turned out to be a pleasure both for the professionals involved and for the clients themselves who now seem to fully enjoy the home what a year dreamed of!
