From studio of an art lover to flat for a young couple, the house is a blend of history, art, and colourful, contemporary design.
In Salerno’s city centre, on the first floor of a small independent house dating back to 1936, art and antiques meet contemporary design in the restoration work led by FADD Architects.
House Poseidonia is the outcome of the transformation of the professional studio of an art collector – featuring pieces from all over the world – into an apartment for a young couple.
Joining two adjacent units – resulting in a total surface of 75 square meters – FADD’s project combines the strong character of contemporary design with the historic vibe of the space. The mood of the whole project, alongside the contrast between historic and contemporary, is the accurate display of art pieces as key feature.
The entrance leads straight into the living room, which is a bright and elongated space. The far wall has been brought back to its raw state and frames a French window with a small terrace facing the main street.
The original flooring made of terrazzo tiles laid like a carpet creates an interesting contrast with contemporary design pieces - including the sofa Cipria by Edra, a blue lounge chair by Cappellini designed by Patricia Urquiola, the floor lamp Sampei by Davide Groppi, the coffee table Stools by Vitra, and a rounded speaker by Bang & Olufsen.
An opening in the living room leads to the kitchen, featuring custom-made furniture by Ikea, a table specifically crafted and designed for the house, Carl Hansen’s chairs CH24 in soaped oak wood, and the red lampshade Flowerpot by &Tradition designed by Verner Panton.
A small hallway leads to the night area, where an entire wall has been covered with miscellaneous prints and paintings from the middle ages. A brand new resin flooring characterizes this part of the house also in the guest bathroom, where it highlights a dark marble sink – also custom made.
In the main bedroom - featuring a private bathroom and a walk-in closet –, a freestanding bathtub (Rexa by Disdoto) stands out from a background wall covered with pencil portraits of women. The bed (Porro by Taiko) is sided by the armchair Ella by Edra. Lightning is filtered by the lampshades Dioscuri by Artemide and Amp Lamp by Norman Copenhagen.
