Renovation of a residential apartment

Studio Raro as Architects

From the outside the intervention seems to blend perfectly into its surrounding historical context yet manages to maintain a contemporary character through a purity of form and the contours followed by the openings. On the inside, the space available was divided in two: an area with a double-height ceiling and giving onto the terrace acts as the living area whereas the other half, on two levels, represents the sleeping quarters.

The volume of the sleeping quarters appears like a white mass cut neatly downs its centre to make space for the hallway, the entrance and the stairs to the upper floor. The ceiling of wood panels was hung internally from the structure of the new roof and therefore this central gap could assume a form which was independent from the rest of the structure, emphasising the two white volumes with their clean light contours.
