Central Forklifts

Designgroup Stapleton Elliott as Architects

Provide a visible showroom building housing the following functions:

 A prominent sales showroom to display forklifts and ancillary equipment.  Administration  Training for drivers  Storage for parts  Storage for rental equipment  Workshop for trucks and forklifts  Service yard

Site and Context

The site is located in a ‘business park’ setting, fronting onto a busy connecting road linking traffic from the motorway to the central valley manufacturing and service areas of Naenae. This creates a strong flow of traffic from east to west. Service lanes on both sides of the building provide excellent vehicle access to and from the site.

Design Solution

The building is conceived as a mechanical assembly made up of component parts:

 The outer steel shell is conceived as a hollow section bar bent to address the road. A cantilevered frontage provides further reinforcement to the curved form with sides angled back to reveal its interior.  A refined inner sleeve houses the showroom / administration and parts department.  The rear section of the shell houses workshop and storage functions in simple warehouse construction.  Large highlighted side openings toward the rear of the shell acknowledge the working function of the building.

This modern industrial building efficiently houses the various functions of sales, administration, training, workshop and storage in a simple sculptured building form.
