This apartment is 46 square meters and is situated on the 4th floor of a classic 1970s block of apartments in the center of Kolonaki, next to the central square and close to the center of Athens (Syntagma). The main view of the apartment is directed towards a neoclassical building, which is lower than the level of the apartment, resulting in ample natural light and ventilation. The arrangement of the apartment was typical, with a closed, separated kitchen, one bedroom, and a living room. Our architectural task was to create an apartment for Airbnb use where one or two persons can live short or long-term.
The primary architectural decision was to open the boundaries of the existing floor plan in order to create a unified architectural result with guaranteed private spaces for more personal living, especially in the case of a couple living together. This touch of unity not only enhanced the diffusion of daylight throughout the residence but also created the sense of an expanded house while integrating some living functions. Simultaneously, the selected materials applied to the entire apartment meticulously contributed to configuring a coherent, unified architectural result.
Specifically, the choice of wooden tiles for the entire floor of the apartment creates a cozy ambiance, complemented by convenient furniture such as the sofa, dining table, armchairs, TV set, and bed. In line with our overarching idea of unity, lighting also plays a complementary role. Therefore, we opted for unique and elegant sconces and pendant lights for indirect and direct lighting, respectively.
Lastly, the choice of colors distinguishes warmth through tones of beige and brown, while vibrancy is introduced through elaborated strokes of terracotta, gold, and green. The carpentry materials enhance this approach complementary. In conclusion, our architectural approach aimed to create an easy-living, cozy, and vibrant experience with elegance and sophistication.
