Crowne Plaza, Rohini

Crowne Plaza, Rohini

GPM Architects & Planners as Architects

An upscale hotel brand of the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), Crowne Plaza is located in Asia's second largest sub-city, Rohini. Contemporary design combined with modern esthetics, the project comprises of twin towers that shares a common basement. The 15-storeyed tower is a hotel and the second tower, a 10-storeyed building, is an office-cum-shopping complex. The first upscale hotel in northwest Delhi, Crowne Plaza is now a preferred destination to meet and celebrate! With a lobby ceiling height of 40 ft., Crowne Plaza will be one of the tallest buildings in Asia's second largest sub city, Rohini, New Delhi.

Located in a prominent location in North Delhi, the area where Crowne Plaza hotel stands today was developed as a commercial hub of Rohini. In close proximity to shopping complexes, local attractions and a host of reputed educational institutions and super specialty hospitals, this hotel is located adjacent to Adventure Island, an immensely popular amusement-cum-shopping arcade. Given its location, slightly off the main road and in close proximity of important business centers, the programme of this 4-star contemporary city hotel is strongly focused on events and conferences. Functionally, it is devised as a comfortable and technologically intuitive place, but also elegant and sophisticated design-wise. Designed in association with RK Associates, the client’s brief demanded distinct demarcations of use by offices, commercial and hotel. Believing that the core of a hotel lies in its lobby, entry of Crowne Plaza gives a grand impression to its patrons with a 40 feet high entrance ceiling. With PIA Engineering & Associates, Thailand on board as interiors consultants introducing one of the finest products and services, the hotel houses one of the largest banquet facilities, 183 guest rooms, three F&B outlets and a luxurious spa. It also have one of the city's largest mechanical multilevel parking areas attached with high-end offices.

Crowne Plaza is considered a green project because of facilities that include dual flush WCs, technologies that allow 100 percent water recycling through in-built plants, use of VRV-based chillers that use environment-friendly gas, double-glazed façade that allows energy saving, design that allows maximum use of natural light, rainwater harvesting techniques and use of low power consumption lights like LEDs. Three types of cladding materials have being used in the structure; double-glazed glass cladding in the guest room, and aluminium composite panel and Gwalior stone cladding overall. Double-glazed glass cladding reduces heat transfer, thereby reducing energy consumption; while the aluminium composite panels and stone cladding reduce maintenance costs and are easy to maintain.

A special feature of this project is the use of solar power to heat water. Large solar panels have been installed on the terrace that utilises natural light to heat the water flowing through the panels. Significantly, the terrace surface is not exposed to the sun's rays, thereby reducing the AC load on the top floor.

Overall, the design embodies the royal philosophy of ‘nothing is much’. The same has been displayed in the rampant usage and bold combination of materials. The design feels brilliant, and the user is sure to get the ritzy and glamour of the space!
