Interview on the completion of the day care center in Vallendar
Prof. Herrmanns: If you compare the competition drawings with the structural results, there are hardly any differences. What changes have there been?
In fact, it was mainly refinements and specifications. One change was the renouncement of the playability of the flat roof. There were of course good reasons against it. And at the beginning you don't know exactly what the facade will look like in the end. After intensive studies, we decided on facing with clinker brick slips. Not least because the old building has a clinker brick facade.
Speaking of the references to the old building, with which the new building is connected via a container corridor: How do the facades of your building fit into this ensemble?
On the one hand with the clarity of the volume. We are convinced that the simpler, more unambiguous, more regular the form in the jungle of the object world, the better it can accommodate the diverging architectures of the environment.
If you could only highlight one detail that says everything about the building itself.
We have limited ourselves to a platonic solid so that the children can easily grasp their new domicile. In addition to the questions of design acceptance, my colleagues from Mplus Architects and I always took into account in the planning that kindergartens are also the place of work of the educators, whose needs must also be taken into account.
Now the building belongs entirely to the children and will certainly be filled with joy and children's laughter. May the children spend an eventful and happy time here!
