DAY to DAY

DAY to DAY is our office in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, and is a small complex of architecture, cafés and flower shops where artists and craftspeople from various genres gather based on interior design, food and flowers.

The purpose of creating this facility was to make the design office a familiar place for the people involved.

When we thought about residential and shop design in the big picture, we sought to create a design office as a place where people can experience something a little closer to their daily lives.

We believe that the overlap of various landscapes and scenes, including people, places, events and experiences, create our daily life, and that each of these elements gives color to our daily life.

We designed this complex with the aim of creating a space where people can experience this.

Entering from the main entrance, you will find the café area, and our design office is located on the other side of the glass wall behind the café area.

On the south side of the café is an entrance leading to the flower area.

While taking a break in the café, the flowers and plants that naturally come into view give a sense of the seasons that is uniquely Japanese.

In the center of the café area is a 3 m long solid white oak table.

This table is used not only for dining, but also for various other purposes, such as a display stand for products and community building.

The design office and the café area are next to each other through glass, so that the café area can be felt from the workspace of the design office.

This allows the designers to start their daily work as if they were in a café and is intended to reduce the fatigue of design work, which tends to be confined to the office.

The flower area is located opposite the café area.

The interior design uses concrete counters and timber wall finishes, with materials selected to be closer to natural materials.

The flowers on sale change with the seasons and the coloring of the space changes accordingly.

The interior design of the entire facility is composed mainly of materials that convey a sense of texture when you touch them.

The feel of concrete and wood, which are not normally touched in everyday life, is fresh and lifts visitors' spirits a little beyond the everyday.

The café and flower shop are not just places for sales, but also places where visitors can experience the space and the objects there.

Visitors can touch and feel the items, and if they like them, they can even buy the furniture in the shop.

Behind the creation of this kind of facility is our desire to be more deeply involved in ‘living’ itself, and not just as a vessel for architecture.
