Deutsche Bank seized the opportunity to create an innovative workplace when it relocated its head office to the International Commerce Centre in Kowloon. The new headquarters aim to demonstrate their strength, innovation and ambition in the region while nurturing its people and culture. Creating efficient shared facilities and connecting over 2,000 staff and several business units across 12 floors was the central challenge in the design. Punctuating the lift core space with an interconnecting stair that feeds into a shared business lounge on each floor facilitates communication and access throughout the entire open-plan workspace. Enabling a flawless client experience was another vital component of the design brief. This was achieved by maximising sweeping views across Hong Kong harbour in addition to a gallery-style reception, private meeting rooms and catering facilities. Connecting the brand to the local culture was central to the project's success. Locally-sourced stone flooring and bamboo are among carefully selected materials focusing on durability and sustainability. This project created a further opportunity to promote the region by showcasing emerging contemporary art through Deutsche Bank's own collection. The design team integrated the artwork wherever possible by installing custom-designed lightboxes on the client floors and in all employee business lounges.
