Eslite Spectrum, one of Taiwan's leading cultural and lifestyle brands, was invited to open its largest store in Asia at Yulon City in Xindian - a major mixed-use redevelopment transforming a former industrial site into a new urban center. The interior sits within an existing retail shell, and the design's task was to give that space clarity of movement and an identity worthy of Eslite's cultural role.
The design turns circulation itself into the store's defining experience. A central arcade and branching corridors form a modern pilgrimage path, guiding visitors through the space with clarity and intention. These routes converge at a central atrium - a cathedral-inspired void rising four floors, where the Eslite Bookstore, the brand's spirit and heritage, sits at the heart of the journey.
The corridors are defined by a warm, vaulted ceiling and rhythm of brick arches that create depth and procession; glass balustrades keep the space open to the levels below, while soft lighting draws out the curves and materials. A cascading escalator rises through a sequence of illuminated arches, turning a simple ascent into a dramatic vertical journey that pulls the eye upward through the store.
At the center, the atrium becomes a temple of reading: soaring timber arches, filtered daylight, and large poetic canvases - lines from important literature inscribed across the walls - create a space of quiet elevation. The monumental scale of the atrium with natural light coming in and moving throughout the day turns the bookstore into a place of contemplation as much as commerce, and anchoring the entire circulation concept so that the journey through Eslite Xindian is both ceremonial and deeply human.
