The 92 sq. m. apartment is located in a building erected in 1954 in the historical center of Minsk. The project was developed for a young man working in IT. The client wanted a graceful and thoughtful design that would not be a direct derivative of any existing interior, but would pursue its own aesthetic objectives.
The interior is almost entirely filled with pieces of furniture and lighting specially designed for this project as part of my ZAPAZUHA brand.
Planning solution.
The zonal planning solution consists of dividing the apartment into three blocks:
- common space of the kitchen-living room
- private area of the bedroom and office
- a block with a bathroom, that can be entered through the space where the utility room is located.
HALLWAY.
We replaced the front entrance door with an invisible custom-made door painted to match the color of the walls. The wall finishing is Benjamin Moore's hard-wearing acrylic paint. The floor is parquet flooring from Pattern Parquet.
Behind the arched opening opposite the entrance door, there is a washer and a dryer, ample storage for household chemicals and a niche for a robot vacuum cleaner, as well as ventilation. A dense deep blue color for the walls, facades, and ceiling of the laundry room adds depth and dimension to the space. The combination of deep blue and terracotta luminaires is the first thing a person entering the apartment sees. An additional functional and decorative art object is the VISELITSA rack by ZAPAZUHA.
BATHROOM.
In the combined bathroom we were able to place a bathroom and a separate shower area.
All plumbing is built-in. It is white and matte and comes from such European brands as TECE, Bruma, Viega, Villeroy & Boch, Tres.
Finishing - bright tiles by the Spanish brand Ragno and light gray microcement.
The shower area is complemented by a handmade stool "SUHARIK" by ZAPAZUHA, made of smalt.
The freestanding washbasin from HOLBI is complemented by a mirror "ZPT" with a frame made of smalt from ZAPAZUHA brand. On the mirror, there is a light fixture on a magnet by the Italian brand SIMAS, which moves freely on the mirror plane. Above the mirror, there is a lamp by Vistosi factory. Compositionally, it seems to have been trying to climb on the mirror, but "ZPT" slouched and dodged on time, preventing it from doing so.
BEDROOM.
The dominant feature of the bedroom is a large bed in combination with bedside lamps and a round large lamp in the headboard, invented specifically for this interior.
The bent headboard is like a guillotine to clamp the heads of the side lamps and hold them firmly. The light fixtures have upward receding pendants that visually work for the height. The rich dark deep color of the walls and ceiling creates an effect of depth and blurs the boundaries of the room, creating an enveloping effect. Everything is painted with Benjamin Moore acrylic super matte paint.
The light fixture above the headboard is the accent of the composition, which works for several lighting scenarios, giving diffuse and reflected light. The luminous circular element rolls down as if it had pierced the base and froze at the right mark. The bed is made of painted MDF.
Next to the window, there is a mirror with a frame made in the technique of classical smalt mosaic and an anatomic chair "LORDOZ" by ZAPAZUHA, a vintage pendant lamp handmade by "Artemide" brand. The windows have black-out curtains.
In addition, there is a storage area for bedding and clothes.
THE OFFICE.
The office is made in a complex sandy shade and was conceived as a space for relaxing, reading, listening to music with a glass of good whisky, and working.
In the center of the room there is a table "TROPOS" with chairs "LORDOZ" from ZAPAZUHA. Above the table, there is a light fixture by Formagenda brand, which sets the axis of symmetry. The luminaire gives a reference to the Soviet past, reminding of an old-fashioned handbag. On the wall behind the table, there is a luminous circle painted in the color of the wall, which when switched on creates the effect of a "vignette" crowning the overall composition with the table. Next to the table are closed storage systems for documents, stationery and books. On the floor, there is a handmade woolen rug.
The office has a restored Soviet bar-fridge, above which hangs a mirror "ZPT" by ZAPAZUHA. Next to the bar, there is a chair "VLASOV" by ZAPAZUHA, named in honor of the strongest man of the 60s - weightlifter Yuri Vlasov.
KITCHEN-LIVING ROOM.
The kitchen has a linear configuration and a freestanding island, which serves as a dining table and an additional work surface. There is an oven on the reverse side. The built-in refrigerator is placed separately at the entrance to the kitchen area and merges with the wall.
The depth of the ventilation shaft protruding from the wall plane is used for the upper storage systems. They are concealed at full height from the worktop to the ceiling. The fronts and the decorative panel covering the vent are made with shallow milling, reminiscent of antique cannelures. The introduction of a metric row visually lightens the composition, removes monotony and disguises the gaps between the facades.
In terms of compositional and artistic construction, there are implicit references to classical architectural forms. The main means of harmonizing the composition are mirror symmetry, strict proportioning in the coordination of visual masses, introduction of rhythm and plasticity. The main accent and color dominant is the lamp above the table by the Italian factory PENTA. Two custom-made lamps above the worktop reinforce the symmetry and verticality and provide additional working light on the worktop.
Opposite the kitchen is a sofa BEMOL and a table STOIK by ZAPAZUHA. On the wall is a decorative light fixture by Wastberg brand, giving a reference to a rosette mold.
