‘Eyes of Tirana’ is designed as a large high-rise building aiming to develop the profile of the Albanian capital.
The competition proposal consists of three building parts holding flats, offices and shops totaling 55,000 m2 with a 26-storeyed tower as landmark. Situated in the city centre the building will be the first visible result of a large-scale ambitious masterplan for Tirana.
The vertical oases connect the various functions and bring focus to the life within the building. In the green atriums you will find swimming pools, not only for recreational purposes, but also as part of the earthquake precautions. The atriums will appear as eyes overlooking Tirana, with the high mountains to the east and the dry plain to the south.
The project proposal is based on sustainable solutions with focus on natural ventilation, solar energy and other energy-saving measures. The project won first prize primarily for its general idea of integrating urban life with the functions of the building, thereby adding qualities and possibilities to Tirana not available today.
