What was the brief?
The Paphos coast is an inspiring place, its popularity with visitors, residents, and investors is testament to the beauty and the quality of life this small Mediterranean town offers. The western coast specifically holds a special magic that manifests most strongly just before dusk. The sight of the sun dipping into the horizon over the sea is so enchanting that people naturally gravitate to this area for afternoon walks, beach days, coffee time, and more.
Imagine calling this beach your home.

What were the key challenges?
Designing for one of the few available plots at the very front of the Faros beach was a responsibility as much as it was an amazing opportunity. The project had to reflect the qualities of the site, and deliver on the expectations that come with living on the beach. Easy access, security, natural daylight, stunning views, natural and durable materials, and wide open spaces present a character of easy living.
The resulting two residences embrace modern design values. They are configured with wide open plan living areas. Its western façade is separated from the load-bearing structure. The result is a continuous glass façade, most of which can slide away on two sides. The whole ground floor almost becomes an open, covered veranda!
The covered swimming pool extends towards the sea with an infinity edge, but ittouches the interior of the house as well as the veranda. The focus is on the beach and the sunset views. The living room, the swimming pool, each and every bedroom enjoy a western orientation. This is combined with limited windows on the east facades to better isolate from the road. The backs of the houses feature fixed glazing to shared spaces inside, with either opaque glass, or external louvers, in order to block views to the interior.
What materials did you choose and why?
The all-natural finishes used are visible everywhere in the project. The wood and granite walls that adorn the street elevation are reflected inside with marble floors and wood accents on the stairs and entrance. The beach veranda is characterized by decking, and the travertine-clad flank walls, for privacy from the neighbors. The sophisticated detailing and careful construction produce impeccable building quality that is visible at every corner and joint.
