FIVE Out, Four Seasons Amman

Five Out, the dining and lounge restaurant located at Four Seasons Amman was spruced up with modern aesthetics by the team of DTK Studio. The restaurant is to be open every evening from May till October. A design directive given to DTK Studio of redefining the culinary experience with an innovative concept summarises the brief for the project.  DTK studio then inspired the narrative of the space to align with the restaurant’s theme to serve all five human senses in a refreshingly modern ambience synonymous with the brand’s name “Five Out”.

Concept:  The newly enhanced Five Out restaurant at the Four Seasons Amman Hotel transforms the gastronomic journey by artfully catering to the quintessence of 5 human senses in unparalleled harmony. Focussed on delivering an experiential dining affair, Five Out achieves to compliment the sense of sight, touch, and hearing whilst their splendid menu provides for smell and taste.

An open yet sculpted space combined with the fresh colour scheme striking a balance of nature’s greenery and dimmed moody lights builds the appeal of sight. The restaurant overlooks Fifth Circle along with an opulent cityscape contributing to the aesthetics. Bedouin tents-inspired canopies and independent trees resemble the vast desert shrubs upraise the sense of sight further.

The outer compound is embanked with a series of herbs like Basil, Sage, Rosemary, Mint and Oregano, which fills the space with a scent of freshness and also amplifies the sense of touch when the guests run their fingers over the shrub.

To bestow the sense of hearing, tranquil and serene lounge music alleviates the ambience for early evening dining and later transcends into DJ music into the night.

Open kitchen curated to allow the fragrances of live food preparation fused with the exquisite taste elevates the dining experience of the guest to a sensory expedition.

Various design elements: DTK studio contrived the space in a multi-dimensional model expanding in the horizontal and vertical direction harmonious to human scale.

Fashioned at different heights, the canopies break the horizontal linearity of the space and avoid the corridor effect. This operates in the vertical direction as well which works in coherence to progressively reduce the expansive effect of the facade within the visual periphery of the restaurant to human scale.

The inclusion of biophilic elements like lush plants and trees in conjunction with the unadulterated forms of locally procured natural marble adds character and charisma to the space.

About the execution: Challenged by the strict timeline to complete the renovation of Five Out during its seasonal break, the team achieved an impressive result enriched by sustainable materials and practices to deliver a wholesome space. With a majority of the products and materials used, procured locally from Granite table tops, marbles, and artworks to even the locally grown shrubs, the space stands as an example of a well-planned and scheduled execution.

About the ambience: Immersed within a tastefully curated spectrum of neutral hues, the ambience exudes an exquisite charm, expertly crafted through the comforting allure of plush searing nestled beneath the canopy roofs. Simultaneously, the juxtaposed counterpart embraces the vastness of its surroundings with unobstructed views of the vibrant cityscapes that unfolds beyond the Fifth Circle.

Challenges overcome:- The project being a renovation of an outdoor space involved impediments due to weather conditions. With strict timelines for \completion restricted to the restaurant’s seasonal closure, the execution had to be carried out in the rain and winter seasons increasing the complication of the outdoor areas.

Unique/key features:- Five Out restaurant is contrived as a juncture for the 5 human senses of sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing, creating a wholesome experience in a quaint and warm atmosphere. Natural and biophilic entities, like raw-cut marbles, enhance the dual nature of the space for dining and lounging. The locally grown plants that not only add to the aesthetics but also serve a meaning to the space enhance the visual, thematic and sensory experience.

Technical elements: The project’s nature being renovation meant that the team had pre-determined features with assigned purposes. Enhancements in functionality and reappraising the aesthetics were of primary importance. Through innovative concepts of vertically differentiated canopies, DTK studio brought the principle of harmony and balance and scale to the space. The team enhances the human-centric design to define the theme of the renovated space with human senses in solidarity with the brand’s identity,  “Five Out”.

Material selection: Natural, locally grown plants contribute to the fresh and calming colour scheme combined with domestically sourced marbles. African teak veneer and fabric Beduin tent resembling canopies cover a fragment of the outdoor area creating a warm and cosy ambience in company with Janus & Cie carpets and sombre mood lights from Flos, Restoration Hardware and Tribu.

Furniture chosen: Carefully handpicked furniture chosen for comfort while oriented to the quaintness of the space is a mix of the outdoor range of Kettal,  Janus& Cie. The fabric from Perennials adds a dollop of colour which brings character to an otherwise neutral palette.
