Design Narrative

1. CONCEPTUAL PREMISE – “THE AXIS OF LEGACY”
A longitudinal axis of water–reflection is proposed, which organizes the access, generates a ceremonial sequence between the city and the museum, and symbolizes the formative flow of the Academy (from the past to the present and to the future). The museum is articulated around this axis: front access/reception, exhibition halls and trophies next to the canal; the multipurpose room (SUM), auditorium, and services at the back; cafeteria/store with terrace.

2. FORMAL PREMISE
The project’s form was conceived through formal intersections that propose an axis as a distributing element that connects the different required areas. Once the volumes are defined, two of them are combined to generate parallelepipeds that create longitudinal spaces; by generating solid bases, a volume is placed on top that is defined as the second level and roof.

3. FUNCTIONAL PREMISE
An axis is proposed that hierarchizes the entrance and distributes the different spaces within the required architectural program. On the ground floor, the different spaces that are part of the route are proposed.

4. SPATIAL PREMISE
Spatiality was a very essential aspect in the design process. The interior space is composed of tall areas that allow audio and lighting control; the enclosures detach in order to control the entry of natural light in the spaces that require it and to avoid interference with exhibition conservation and visual effects. Outside, didactic spaces are generated that allow visitor interaction with the architecture of the center, making use of double-height spaces, a reflecting pool that invites visitors to follow the route, and an esplanade with a park for recreation and rest.

5. TECHNOLOGICAL PREMISE
The project is conceived under a rational and accessible construction logic, prioritizing resource economy, ease of execution, and long-term durability. The structure combines masonry walls with a system of reinforced concrete frames, columns, and reticular beams that allow efficient spans and a clear construction modulation. In addition, the implementation of solar panels is proposed to counteract energy consumption.
