Courtyard house architecture is a modern housing style in which limited openness to the outside gaze and communication in the interior space are harmonized. This house maintains privacy, promotes exchanges between families, and tries to selectively bring the external environment into the interior.
This house aims for an architectural plan that harmonizes the openness to the external gaze and the communication in the internal space. It reinterprets the concept of a courtyard or fortified house with the theme of privacy protection. The unique design of this house ensures safety and personal space for the external environment while forming a bond with the members inside.
From the outside, a solid wall surrounding the house is installed high to ensure the protection and privacy of personal information. This wall blocks outside gaze so that the family can enjoy life in a comfortable and safe space. These walls were designed to be integrated with the walls that make up the architecture. Due to the opening in the wall, an open structure centered on the courtyard is created inside the house.
The courtyard serves to bring sunlight and natural light into the house. Through this, the interior space is equipped with a bright and pleasant atmosphere, and the family can live in harmony with nature. A living room, multi-purpose space, and kitchen are arranged around the courtyard, creating an activity space where families can gather, communicate, and spend time. Families can recognize and communicate with each other through an open structure centered on the courtyard.
The common space, living room, and terrace are created as places where families can gather, communicate, and enjoy themselves. Individual spaces are organically connected through connected passages, so exchanges with family members occur naturally. Openness to the outside gaze is realized through wide windows and open openings in the wall integrated with the fence. The fence has a strong purpose of blocking the line of sight and movement, but the wall has its meaning through doors and windows. The fence of the house is surrounded by the composition of the wall, but by mixing the role of the fence with the wall, the external natural scenery and lighting permeate into the interior, thereby offsetting the impression of the closed interior space through a visual connection.
