Gulsig is Mariana's dream, a woman who grew surrounded by all kinds of candy because of her family's business. Her wish was to not only distribute them but also to create a dreamy space to showcase these products that have always filled her own life with color and flavour.
Located in Val'Quirico, a 'medieval style village' in San Miguel Xoxtla, Tlaxcala, roughly 40 minutes outside of Puebla, we developed this project filled with colors, flavours, shapes and textures that happens to be a candy shop.
The project's concept comes from the idea of inhabiting a space built out of candy, where the walls are covered in broken pieces of colorful tiles, similar to those of a piece of candy, where the color palette responds to the identity of the brand, and specially the protagonists of Gulsig: the sweet tooth monsters.
Because it was a very irregular space and due to the fact that the client already had some furniture for product display, we decided to stick to the walls and design shelves to fit the shapes of the place; this way, circulation occurs around the entire store without hindering traffic and allowing visibility of what is happening at all times.
Color works as a language that indicates the type of product that is displayed 'on that side' of the shop and even though the broken tile in walls and floor generates visual noise, the rest of the elements (in the same tones) creates a contrast by being simple and plain shapes that help to not saturate the space where all the types of candy are the stars.
Signage and decoration with the characters (the monsters) also work as lamps and are a fun resource to dress the space and also have the function of talking about the brand and being focal points that attract attention to take photographs and promote the shop on social media, which has become a need and a requirement in most commercial projects.
