The compact new building of the Kaufbeuren day-care centre blends harmoniously into the surrounding residential area of multi-storey buildings, in which the building's appropriate volume picks up the proportions of the neighbourhood. An internal air space divides the simple cube into two parts. By offsetting the two parts of the building, external pergolas are created on two sides of the façade to the north and south.

Due to the solid wood construction, the building is ecologically, sustainably and recyclably manufactured. High-quality surfaces made of local spruce wood create pleasant acoustics and a healthy environment for the youngest visitors. The character of the warm wooden room shell is continued in the adjacent arcades. This creates a visual interlocking of inside and outside.

Centrally located is an introverted atrium that connects the two floors. The group rooms are arranged in a ring around the strong, communicating centre. Clearly defined rooms are assigned to the uses of the building as kindergarten, crèche and after-school care, which are connected via the central atrium and create a house community over the two floors. In addition to the communicative atrium, intimate retreats for the children will also be created. The individual group rooms are closed to the inside for more peace and security. These rooms open up to the greenery via various references to the outside and each has direct access to the garden.

The rear-ventilated façade of pre-grey and glazed spruce wood is composed of alternating widths and depths of the vertical squared timbers. The play of the shell is continued at the incised openings, which result from large panorama windows and narrow opening wings.
