Originally built in the 19th century, this home in Boston is a living piece of history. With the combined efforts of TSP Smart Spaces, Fourth Dimension Lighting Design, and Illuminate (Boston), the Music Room in this historical Boston home was modernized to provide its new owners with a stunning space to live in. 

The Music Room was initially built to host performances by international guests in a private setting for the family and their guests; currently, the room is still used as a music room, but instead of a stage for performers, a piano now stands for lessons to be taken. 

Though the room had always been incredible architecturally thanks to their original creators, the renowned Rotch & Tilden architecture firm, the lighting wasn't up to par. The dim and ancient lighting was lacking, and the splendour of the room was suffering because of it. Tasked to update the lighting in the space, TSP Smart Spaces consulted with Terry Rogers from Illuminate (Boston) and brought on Fourth Dimension Lighting Design for this special project. In order to highlight the intricate details of the room, each luminaire was strategically placed to maximize its lighting potential. And by choosing to focus on modern luminaires, the room can truly stand out.

Placed behind the Greek-inspired marble columns, MP Lighting's L52 compact cabinet luminaires bring out the architectural complexities of each monument. In a Bronze Powder Coated finish, the luminaires are able to blend in with the dark brown caramel colour of the columns, creating a seamless look. 

On the walls, small spotlights (L225W-S) illuminate artworks and prints and make them stand out with the perfect pop of light. To blend in with the light blue-gray walls, the Matte Chrome Anodized finish was selected.

The Music Room houses a beautifully crafted half-dome that features detailed plaster rosettes along its curvature. To ensure that the rosettes would stand out and be expertly illuminated, 4 spotlights were placed on each side of the half-dome for a total of 8 luminaires. To create more dynamic lighting, a mixture of medium-sized and small-sized L225 spotlights were chosen. Like with the wall-mounted L225Ws, the chosen finish was also Matte Chrome Anodized for a smooth end result.
