The gate tower of the "Hofkellerei" marks the westernmost point of the former

court fortifications. Its origins date back to the 14th century. As the name Trinkstube or “Chorherren Trinkstube” (canons' drinking hall) suggests, this new building not only served as a gate tower connecting the court with the town, but also as a public tavern where the bishop's wine was served. 

At the beginning of the 16th century, the drinking hall and the hall of the "Hofkellerei" were furnished with late Gothic interior fittings (stone door frames, window columns, wooden ceilings). Around 1640, the original top of the tower with its defensive plate and battlement was replaced by a tent roof. In the 19th century, the east-side extension was added, replacing the wooden external staircase. 

In the last century, minor renovation work was carried out repeatedly by various architects. The bar and hall were renovated (around 1890 | 1902), new sanitary facilities were installed (around 1958), and the apartment on the third floor was extended and converted (around 1915).

Now, the entire building has been completely restored.
