SureSet Resin Systems as Manufacturers

Hopewood Park Hospital sets a new benchmark in modern mental health accommodation. Described as “An integrated art scheme for a brand new £50 million mental health hospital development” Hopewood Park Hospital was built by Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust as part of the NHS Trust’s £60 million Pride Project.

The hospital’s Barton Centre is named after Pilot Officer Cyril Joe Barton VC who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for heroic actions during a war time flying mission. SureSet worked with Medical Architecture and Art Projects Limited (MAAP) and Laing O’Rourke over this four-phase project.

Work creating four inner courtyards began in 2014 with the installation 1,455m² of Barley Beach and Norwegian Pearl, Natural Aggregate. For the second phase of work SureSet recreated bespoke artwork designed by Dan Savage using their recycled glass range Spectrum®. Phase three, was the installation of 100m² of 10mm Barley Beach amongst planting and paving slabs to a landscaped area. The fourth and final phase was the installation of SureSet within a pathway that includes bespoke patterns and lines from a specially written poem. Throughout the hospital and grounds, the bespoke artwork beautifully reflects local history of the nearby Victorian water pumping station and Ryhope colliery as well as the local scenery of Ryhope Dene and the Tunstall Hills.

While the design of the hospital successfully incorporates the stunning views offered by the North-sea coast and surrounding countryside. SureSet work internationally, with residential and commercial customers and is suitable for new build and refurbishment projects.
