House Darling Point

The site is a tiny wedged shape place bounded by a very old stone retaining wall set at the top of thirty nine steps

The site is secretive; only connected to the street by a narrow staircase.

Arriving it is sometimes surprising to find it there- like a ship in a bottle - a large and delicate object passed through an improbably small opening.

This project is the description of that place - an unfolding and endless promenade through and across the inside and outside spaces

and, of course, its also about the pleasure of use.

The site  is woven into the house  linking  and locking - side to side , back to front, up and down.

The entry court flares to hold late afternoon sun in winter.

The kitchen court- cool for summer with a natural stream captured in a sandstone pond engulfed by the giant rubber tree.

The water court with its slender green pool and sticklike bridge tying the terrace to the deck.

The roof terrace with its giganntic pink bougainvillea, carefully tended during construction and trained onto an angled pergola ,high up and over the boated cove of Rushcutters Bay.
