This project is an 8800 m2 factory/office for one of the leading producers of switchgear panels and electrical system providers in Iran. The project brief included designing an extension to the existing factory in a 17.000 sq.m piece of land located at Nazar Abad industrial park. The new ensemble of buildings comprises offices, production & assembly plant and storages.
The Design process started with establishing a program by focusing on the value engineering, functional architecture along with maintaining a proper visual consistency and spatial composition. While the main building geometry is rectilinear, the main entrance and the key elevation is characterized by an iconic green stair structure starting on the ground floor all the way to the factory roof.
This fluid green motion at the entrance and building façade continues in the office level interior as well. Moreover, this Rectangular shape of the plans in three levels helped to have an efficient function distribution. Unlike the typical factories with lifeless building structures in this project, juxtaposition of office spaces and the green gathering spaces in the intervals creates a more pleasant and vibrant space for factory workers.
Considering a trombe wall and natural ventilation system for the assembly plant, solar panels, and smart electrical louvers on the façade helps for reducing the negative impacts of this factory on the environment. moreover, the façade’s louvers are inspired by the factory’s products and are producible in the IT factory by its waste materials.
In summary, the AT’s main goal in this project was to design a comfortable humanistic industrial factory to maximize the spatial quality, visual values and ease of maintenance which all lead to a more suitable work environment for the factory staffs.
