Lake House

The site is located in a new development in Lagos; overlooking the estate*s man-made feature lake.

The villa was conceived as an exclusive family home, with its work, living, dining and entertainment spaces arranged around a series of internal and external courtyards. While apparent on grade level, the green spaces are reintroduced on the upper two levels as roof gardens for the bedrooms to open up onto. This provides a connection between inside and outside throughout the house. The main bedroom is located on the first floor maximising the views of the lake, with its own private garden terrace cantilevering over the pool & garden below. Distant ocean views are accessible from the upper most level which accommodates a viewing pavilion, opening up onto a roof garden terrace and bar.

The development borders an indigenous forest, which had a strong influence on the concept of reinstating the natural vegetation, by introducing green pockets in and around the spaces of the house. The building*s form is expressed as simple horizontal shapes, articulated in complementary materials. The upper living zone contrasts the heavy ground floor walls, with a semi permeable delicate screen. This screen acts as a *breathing skin* for the building in the hot climate, as well as providing privacy.
