Little Patuxent Square

CORE architecture + design as Architects

CORE has worked with Costello Construction to design Little Patuxent Square in downtown Columbia, Maryland. Designed to meet LEED Gold criteria, Little Patuxent Square offers 158,000 square feet of Class A office space, 10,000 square feet of retail space and 160 luxury apartments in downtown Columbia, MD. Serving as Design Architect, CORE collaborated with Design Collective (Architect of Record) to build the first concrete-frame office building in this area. With a frontage on Little Patuxent Parkway, the 9-story office tower features an elaborate curtain wall exterior, deploying a range of vision glass, shadowbox, and metal panel at the slab edge to achieve a subdued and tailored massing. The curtain-wall system provides an outer covering for the building that is non-structural, allowing it to be made of a lightweight material. By using glass, natural light can infiltrate further into the building.

Reinforcing the Downtown Columbia vision for creating a walk-able, pedestrian friendly streetscape, the ground floor retail engages the edges of the site and promotes interaction between building tenants and the surrounding environment. The multi-family building, which offers a full compliment of amenities, including a rooftop pool, occupies the north and east sides of the site with one quarter of the units activating the elevated private courtyard space between the office tower and residential tower. The primary office space tenant is Optum. Howard Bank will also open a location at the site.
