Interior architecture complete renovation of a 70’s style house.
I have accompagnied my clients in their research of a new home. When we have visited this house I immediately saw the potential of the space, even if there were corridors and little rooms everywhere and an oldfashioned and the poor quality conservatory. I knew that this house could be the answer for their need of space, which opens wide on the surrounding countryside and is big enough to invite all their friends around a kitchen island.
Opening the spaces also requires us to think more about how we greet people : what do we want them to see of the house, how to create intimacy without enclosing space. How to make the entrance functional and original? The bench and its claustra answered all these questions, creating a real signature for the house. The former kitchen was too small and a huge fire place had to be removed to create an openspace kitchen with a big island. (The former kitchen is now the office).
We took a former bedroom to enlarge the living room and taken out the conservatory to open this lively space onto the back garden. Instead of a long corridor, we have chosen to create a toyroom for the two children which links the house to an adjoining former medical practice (now a guest room). This new layout also gave us more space in the master bedroom with an en suite bathroom.
The first floor is totally dedicated to the children : two cosy bedrooms and a large bathroom (which takes the place of a former bedroom). We have removed the former bathroom to create a large landing where they can play together. It is always important to give new life to an old house and to make a unique space for people who will live there.
