Marisfrolg Fashion Campus – Shenzhen, China

Architecture van Brandenburg as Architects

The visionaries behind Marisfrolg Apparel dreamt of a state-of-the-art headquarters that would unify and inspire every aspect of their fashion empire. They aimed to create a space that embodied the spirit of innovation and artistry central to their brand—a creative hub to serve as a source of inspiration for both staff and visitors alike.

To bring this ambitious vision to life, Architecture Van Brandenburg embarked on an exploratory journey, studying the intricate forms of nature and translating these into architectural design. Through the application of double-curvature geometry, they crafted a seamless integration of architecture and structure into one flowing, organic system. This holistic approach not only pushes the boundaries of design but also connects the building intimately with its natural surroundings, creating an immersive environment where architecture, nature, and art become indistinguishable.

A Fusion of Innovation and Nature

The Marisfrolg Fashion Campus spans an impressive 190,400 square metres across its 12.35-acre grounds, embodying the elegance and dynamism of a bird in flight. A series of interconnected, low-rise structures provides space for the brand’s expansion, offering an environment that is functional, beautiful, and sustainable. Design studios are strategically placed to foster creativity and innovation, while production and administration wings are crafted with efficiency in mind. The campus also features a boutique hotel with a dedicated entrance for visiting guests, exhibition spaces for high-profile events and runway shows, flagship stores, restaurants, and serene gardens for reflection and rejuvenation.

An Innovative Structure with Sustainable Materials

The campus rises to 45 metres, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The superstructure, a hybrid of concrete and steel, is clad in a diverse mix of recycled materials, demonstrating Marisfrolg’s commitment to sustainability. Architecture Van Brandenburg incorporated discarded ceramics from local factories, marble offcuts from processing plants, glass slag from extruding facilities, recycled bricks from demolition sites, and raw stone sourced from nearby quarries. This careful selection of materials reduces waste and adds character, making each façade a one-of-a-kind mosaic of colours and textures.

An on-site team of up to 1200 construction workers collaborated closely with the architecture team to develop innovative cladding designs, experiment with material compositions, and refine construction techniques to achieve the desired aesthetic and structural outcomes.

This fusion has resulted in a unique and breathtaking structure, one that not only meets the practical needs of a fashion powerhouse but also stands as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable, thoughtful, and nature-inspired design in the modern era.
