Architectural design and compositional techniques that reveal the authors’ idea:
The room is located in the industrial building of the sixties. We have retained its distinctive features including the high ceiling, visible precast concrete columns and ribbed plates. However, the elements are painted in the overall dark tone, and the main focus is on two white screens designed to broadcast all visual information during the lectures and tutorials.
The color scheme was chosen for a maximal demonstration of the basic idea. The main color is gray-black with the only white space for screens, wooden cover for tactile surfaces, and orange accents. Orange was selected as a color suitable for the company's development cycle according to the spiral dynamics theory.
The space is designed to be mobile, and the room can be changed and transformed on demand. It is shared by a mobile partition, which consists of separate lamellae, can be folded when the entire hall is used, or divides it into two separate halls while providing soundproof, operational and aesthetic functions. Furniture is designed in the same way. A sliding lecturing desk for a speaker transforms into two separate pieces when the hall is divided into two parts. Chairs for participants have armrests and lecterns for a chance to write down one’s thoughts and clever ideas during the learning process.
In each corner of the hall, there is a separate white screen that functions for every room. If the room is used as a common space, two screens provide the convenience of information spread and good visibility for all. The screens are covered with whiteboard paint, so they can be used simultaneously for writing, broadcasting images or video and emphasizing information with magnetic markers. Everything is made for the comfort of the speaker and the audience. The screens are design to be without limits so there is a full creative freedom from floor to ceiling.
For those who do not have enough of it, there are walls covered with graphite layer serving as writing chalkboards. The boundaries are just the limits of the room. Sound, light, and images can be managed with a small remote control in the hands of a speaker or a participant as well as by walk-through switches installed in convenient locations. There can be a light that illuminates the speaker only, or the entire hall can be illuminated. Also there is a light that accentuates the semantic field, which is the back wall of the room. It presents the company strategic idea of the ‘art of smart,’ and the mission of this learning space explained in different meanings of the word ‘smart’.
Glowing letters * be smart :) is a phrase that the company employees use to sign their corporate messages as well as motivation to action.
