Mokotowska Chic

A prime location, the history of the place, and the artistic passions of the owners were the main inspirations for designing the elegant interiors of the Mokotowska Chic apartment. In a historic Warsaw tenement house, architects from Hola Design created a cohesive space in the Art Deco aesthetic.

The apartment is located in the heart of Warsaw, in a building designed by Marian Lalewicz and constructed between 1924 and 1927. The building is listed in the national register of historic monuments, so all construction work required supervision by a heritage conservator. "We love challenges, and the Mokotowska Chic interior design project was certainly one of the most exciting. Despite significant constraints, we adapted the apartment to the needs of the new residents by slightly altering the interior layout," recount Monika Bronikowska and Adam Bronikowski, co-owners of the Hola Design studio.

The architects focused on creating a unified concept, adhering to the Art Deco aesthetic. "Like the apartment owners, we value timelessness – this is the effect we aimed to achieve in this interior. It was very important to us not to overwhelm the space with excessive furniture and decorations. Following the 'tone-on-tone' principle, we avoided significant contrasts," they explain. A subtle color palette and noble finishing materials are the key features of the Mokotowska Chic design.

The favorite and most atmospheric place in the apartment for the household members is the living room. Accentuated large windows, wall moldings, a wooden floor in a French herringbone pattern, and high baseboards perfectly capture the spirit of the 1930s, when the building was constructed. Comfortable sofas and a fireplace also appear here, creating a cozy, homey atmosphere appreciated by the family with two children. The architects also designated a library, which houses a classic black piano. The crowning touch of the arrangement is the artwork from the owners' private collection. The combination of history and modernity creates an elegant place with a unique character.

"We sought the perfect balance between classic and modern styles. We found the 'golden mean,' which gives great satisfaction in such a demanding project," notes Monika Bronikowska.

The consistency in the execution of the concept was appreciated by the jury members of the European Property Awards, awarding the studio a prize. Hola Design also received recognition in the International Design & Architecture Awards competition.
