Following the demolition of the former children's hospital, the block in Stuttgart West was redeveloped. Driven by a dedicated citizens' initiative, a mixed-use neighborhood with perimeter block development was created based on an urban planning competition. The land was allocated through a concept competition.

The Olga 07 building cooperative was able to construct a multi-generational housing complex with 13 apartments, some of which are subsidized, on the corner plot bordering the inner neighborhood path. A spacious event room, a kitchenette accessible from the courtyard, a guest apartment (partially used by the artists' residence), and a communal roof garden were integrated for the community.

The design of the building's exterior incorporates elements of the late 19th-century buildings that still characterize many parts of Stuttgart West today. For example, a ground floor, articulated bay windows, differentiated window walls and cornices, delicate, detailed wrought-iron railings, and appropriately scaled shop windows were designed in a contemporary rather than historicist style. The color scheme also references the sandstone of the buildings opposite and the historically colored window frames from the Wilhelminian era.

These elements were implemented, for example, with through-colored lime plaster, a contrasting base made of combed plaster, sandblasted concrete jambs and cornices, and balustrades made of galvanized reinforcing steel.

The exterior materials and design are continued in the stairwell through the color of the through-colored lime plaster, the colored apartment doors, the polished asphalt, and the grid structure of reinforcing steel in the stairwell opening. The floor plans of the apartments take into account the slightly irregular shape of the plot and develop a spatial differentiation from the interlocking directions. The interior design of the apartments was individually developed in close consultation with the owners.

Thanks to the highly insulated building envelope with a monolithic exterior wall and heating via the sustainable district heating network, the building achieves KfW-55 standard. The intensively planted roof is available to residents for urban gardening and also contributes to rainwater retention and a better microclimate. The concept is complemented by a photovoltaic system installed by the municipal utility company on the top roof.

The many children in the building especially appreciate the communal green courtyard.
