The residential project in the avenue of Corso Palestro 3 in Turin involves the requalification of a historic building located in the historic city centre, from office space to homes with common spaces and services. The building is spread over 7 floors, including an attic floor and basement, in an L shape around a central courtyard. The facades feature worthy decorative elements that will be conserved and valued. However, interiors have lost all the elements of value of the original building due to the various changes in use.
The first action of the project was therefore to free the building of all worthless accretions in order to redefine and restore the original structural setting. The massiveness of structural masonry was then enhanced by removing plasterwork in common spaces to expose original brickwork. All new constructive elements were inserted into this layout using dry technology to make them light and reversible.
The common and communicatory spaces are located on the ground floor, together with the courtyard, and in the basement, and are united by a material constancy of exposed brickwork and the use of black ironwork. The apartments are then distributed from the first to the fifth attic floor.
The project envisages the construction of a total of 19 apartments to accommodate up to 82 users.
In the subdivision of the apartments, a wide range of room types has been sought in order to meet different needs, including single rooms, double rooms and double rooms with connected bathrooms.
