On a narrow, secluded lakeside site in Shakopee, Minnesota, Strand Design shaped a home around a clear sequence: arrival, landscape, then water. Weathered timber siding, vertical windows and black-clad volumes with steel accents let the house recede among birch and oak trees, and concrete planters and walls line the approach.
Beyond the house, a glass-screened porch with a cedar ceiling, a stepped stone terrace, a courtyard terrace with grasses and an outdoor dining area look across the lawn and through the trees to the water. Inside, the living room, an open stair and a kitchen with a white island share daylight from large windows, with wood cabinetry and polished concrete floors keeping the palette simple.
At dusk the long glass walls glow through the woods, and from the water the house reads as a quiet lantern set back among the trunks. Interiors are by S9 Interiors, construction by Sustainable 9 Design + Build, and the landscape by River Heights Landscaping.
