PETIT BAIN

Petit bain is an urban island of floating cultural facilities for the organization La Guingette Pirate. This site of artistic creation and diffusion is situated at number 9 port de la gare, at the foot of the Bibliothèque Nationale in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. The building, determined by navigational constraints, extends over three levels in a template of 45m long by 11m wide by 6m high. The theatre, double this height, is sunken into the volume of the hull. The upper room, extending across the pit accommodates the bar, cloakroom and bathrooms. The ticket office, resource centre and offices are reached by three footbridges at quay-level. A restaurant geared towards social integration offers a view over the seine at water level. The accessible terrace becomes an extension of the public space of the quay, complete with a hanging garden to make the most of Seine from a new angle. It is almost invisible from the quay; colour is used to cover the horizontal circuits while the facades are covered with a wooden cladding.
